Coldplay formed when Chris Martin (vocals/acoustic guitar/piano), Guy Berryman (bass), Jonny Buckland (electric guitar) and Will Champion (drums) met at University College of London. The band released the self-financed Safety EP, which was limited to 500 copies. The Brothers & Sisters EP came out in the Spring of 1999 on Fierce Panda. Like it's predecessor, it's release was limited to 500 copies.

Then Coldplay signed to Parlophone Records, and they released the well-recieved and much-sought after Blue Room EP. Two of the songs on the Blue Room EP had previously appeared on the band's first release and another two of the songs would later appear on their debut album Parachutes.
